Special Friends - Special Needs
At Van Dyke we practice two major teachings. 1) Love God with all your heart, mind, soul, and strength. 2) Love others.
We believe that all people can practice these two commandments regardless of physical ability. We love that a great majority of Jesus' miracles were with individuals with disabilities. His ministry included lame, deaf, blind, mute, and many more unique individuals.
At Van Dyke, we want to minister to your child and to your family in as many ways as possible. We have several programs available to you. Please contact us if you have any questions or desire to enroll in any of these programs.
Sunday Mornings
We have two programs for our Special Needs children on Sunday mornings. Both are during our 9:30 a.m. service, with an 11:00 a.m. program coming soon. Please let us know if you might be interested in that program time.
We offer a self contained, one-on-one, classroom for ages 4-13 with Special Needs. This program includes adapted curriculum which addresses group and individual needs in a gentle way. Bible lessons are taught each week and interaction is encouraged.
We offer many children the option to attend Kid's Church with a Special Buddy (one-on-one). This will include music, drama, video, Bible teaching, and hands-on activities with children in the typical classroom setting.
Not every child will need a Special Buddy. That will be determined when you call our Children's Ministry office and speak to our Special Needs Coordinator. Please contact the office prior to attending so we can be prepared with an individual "Special Buddy" for your child if need be. Or for more information, please contact the Children's Ministry at 813.968.3983 x 156.
